The link above is about a woman who was fed up with her TV/Internet/Phone company. She was angry that her phone calls were being ignored, and that she herself had been ignored. So on the Monday after the Friday when she went into the office and sat for hours without being seen, she drove to the Comcast office and took a hammer to all the office computers and phones. What makes this character even more fascinating is that she’s in her 70s.

These are the kinds of characters I love to write about.

Extreme characters are well-loved by readers because we would love to be able to do what they do. I file these kinds of characters away in my files to come out and be used later in stories. I think about what the natural reaction to something would be and do the opposite. This makes for deep, real characters we can admire.
